"House of Ķempelis" is made in the National Romantic style, with its cubic forms and distinctive corner tower, reminiscent of an ancient Latvian castle. It was designed by Eizens Laube in 1912 and has become an architectural monument of national importance, located in the UNESCO zone. A major renovation was carried out in 2013, including the replacement of the inter-storey slabs and pipes, and improved sound insulation. In the 1920s, Eduards Smilgis, the greatest Latvian theatre director, lived in this house.
The building is surrounded by parks, the Old Town is a 10-minute walk away.
