Usually, we quench our thirst for the ancient breath of history and the elegance of past centuries by visiting castles, manors or luxurious gardens with lush rose beds. And often the pearls of architecture that remain here, next to us, go unnoticed. Therefore, Latio will produce a new series of documentary stories "Dream House" to reveal facts and highlight exciting details about outstanding houses in Latvia.
The first story focuses on one of the most luxurious Art Nouveau houses in Mežaparks, as well as the history and architecture of the area. The viewers will learn this story from the TV presenter Elina Firmane and the guests of the program.
Keizarmežs (Imperial Forest), one of the first garden cities in Europe, was developed as an oasis of peace, allowing people to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday industrial life. The idea, borrowed from the UK, brought city dwellers what they needed most - fresh air, clean water and the presence of nature. Inga Karlštrema, a researcher in the history of architecture, will help us find out how this part of Riga, which plays such an important role today, was formed and grew over the centuries.
We will also talk about one of the most recognized gurus and specialists in Mežaparks architecture - Eduard Kupfer, who once wrote a book for architects on designing residential buildings in harmony with the environment. Kupfer believed that as workplace stress increased, it was important to take care about one’s own health and well-being, choosing a place to live for yourself and your family where you could relax and find peace of mind. This conviction of Kupfer can also be seen in the design of the villa at Annas Sakses Street.
The villa in the Nordic Romantic Style was built in 1904 by Anna Jelizaveta Pandere and carries the status of a cultural monument. How does this fact impact the owner of such a property? In this program, the explanation will be given by Latio estate agent Edgars Behmanis who will reveal the specifics of the sale of historical property and will talk about the real estate tax allowances applied to houses that are listed as historical monuments.
Viewers will also be offered a tour of the luxurious villa. Accompanied by interior designer Eva Stanevica, we will examine all five levels of the house to appreciate the durable finishing materials and details used in the interior. We will look inside the large veranda that gets plenty of warm sunlight throughout the day, have a glance at the romantic brick balcony, and we will be ushered downstairs to the spacious wine cellar.
Over a glass of sparkling wine, we will discuss the various ways in which one can highlight the uniqueness of the space yet preserve the unified story of the house. The designer will share her ideas on how to comfortably furnish a home and how to create harmony in the interior with the help of light and details. We will discuss exhibition of paintings and sculptures in the interior, because art suits Mežaparks indeed!
